Keys to care for a cat

Having a cat can mean different things for different people. Some want a cat to hug and sit on their lap; others are happy to live with a very independent cat who spends most of his time outdoors and does not want too much human interaction.

The important thing is that you try to find a cat that interacts with you if you wish. Not all cats are the same and the way each individual cat behaves with you may depend on their inherent personality and first experiences (or lack of experiences), which can make him feel fearful or confident with people and life in general.

The environment in which you have a cat is also extremely important – for example, if you live with many other cats that do not get along, then you will be stressed and react differently than if you were alone.

While there is no guaranteed way to choose the perfect cat for you and your lifestyle, understanding your expectations and what makes cats move will help you bring home a cat that should be able to cope with its new environment and be the pet you want too.

Can I have a cat with a baby or small children?

There is no reason not to have a cat or a kitten if you have children. It is up to parents to teach their children from the beginning how to approach, caress and manage cats and treat them kindly.

Many children have fantastic relationships with their cats and learn to respect other creatures and to be gentle; it is done successfully all the time, but it is up to the parents to set the rules.

Maybe having a new kitten when you have a new baby or a toddler could be a lot to handle at once, so you have to make sure you have time for all parties is part of a successful relationship. Also, if you are pregnant, you do not need to get rid of the cat. Simple and basic hygiene precautions and the management of cat’s common sense, while the baby is small, can ensure that everyone cohabits happily and safely.
